We understand that costs are a very important issue for our clients.
Unfortunately, as every case is different, an exact quote or even a general estimation of how much you can expect to pay can be very difficult.
FAMILY COSTS
In family cases we offer an initial meeting at our offices for a fixed fee of £250 (inc. VAT) for children matters and £290 (inc. VAT) for matrimonial and tolata. During this consultation we take pride in our ability to provide a more detailed estimate as to the total costs of any case you may face, including assessment of your eligibility for Legal Aid. The initial consultation will last up to an hour and includes a letter of advice.
We also offer a fixed fee divorce or civil partnership dissolution package for £950 (exc. VAT and Court fees or other disbursements. Terms and conditions apply).
Currently there are Court fees payable for issuing a Divorce of £593 (no VAT is chargeable on this disbursement). If you are on certain benefits or your income is below a certain level, you may not have to pay the fee. This is assessed by the Court at the time of issuing the papers.
PROPERTY COSTS
We provide a detailed breakdown of our fees at the beginning of the transaction.
For commercial conveyancing please contact us for a full quote.
WILLS & PROBATE COSTS
For Wills, we offer a fixed price of £300 (exc. VAT) for a single Will or £480 (exc. VAT) for Mirror Wills. A 10% discount on Wills is available for existing or previous clients.
In Probate cases the likely costs of your matter will be linked to the nature of our instruction. We will deal with costs further below but firstly you will need to understand our estimated timescales for the key stages of handling a probate case:
It will take approximately 6-10 weeks to prepare our application for the grant to the Probate Registry following receipt of full instructions.
The grant from the Probate Registry will usually take around 4-8 weeks from receipt of the application. Please note there can be further time if queries are raised upon the application.
Once the Grant of Probate has been obtained, then we estimate a period of 5-8 weeks for encashing estate assets (except for any residential or commercial property transactions), settling liabilities and producing draft estate accounts. Once the executor has approved estate accounts the distributions can be made to beneficiaries (subject to any notices).
Please note that the above timescales are variable due to a number of factors.
We operate on an hourly rate basis for work undertaken on probate matters (between £250 p/h exc. VAT). We estimate the costs of dealing with probate matters in their entirety to be around 1.5 - 2% of the estate and usually between £3,000 to £9,000 exc. VAT. There is a further fixed charge if we are executors.
We offer a fixed fee service if you simply wish to instruct us to obtain a grant of probate and there is no inheritance tax payable (Form IHT205 to be completed). The current fixed fee is £950 exc. VAT.
There are commonly incurred third party disbursements when dealing with any estate as follows:
Probate Court fees including charges for any copy of the Grant of Probate required (currently £273 and copy charges of £1.50 per copy – no VAT is chargeable on these disbursements).
Legal advert fee to advertise the estate for any claims, this varies depending upon the newspaper used but is currently approximately £390 inc. VAT;
Bankruptcy search fees to include the deceased, the executors and each beneficiary (£2 per search - no VAT is chargeable on these disbursements);
If the deceased held a property in England and Wales, there will be a Land Registry fee to obtain an official copy of the legal title (between £3 - £6 per office copy - no VAT is chargeable on these disbursements);
Bank administration charges (currently £16 per beneficiary - no VAT is chargeable on these disbursements).
Your matter will be handled by either Karen Wallis (Chartered Legal Executive) and/or Toni Charlick (Associate Member of CILEX). Please see our Meet the Team section for further details as to their bios.
For a Lasting Power of Attorney, we offer an initial consultation to discuss your needs for a fixed fee of £125 (exc. VAT). Our costs for the preparation of full lasting power of attorney for either finance or welfare for an individual are £500 (exc. VAT) for both finance and welfare for an individual £950 (exc. VAT); the current Office of Public Guardian application fees are £82 per application (no VAT is chargeable on this disbursement).
FIXED FEE APPOINTMENTS
We offer a fixed fee first appointment for £150 (inc. VAT) for all other property transactions to enable you to discuss your requirements with us. This will last at least half an hour and can be conducted at our office or on the telephone. During this consultation we should be able to provide you with a more detailed estimate of the costs.
